It was only about 65 hours, but Amber is quite right, a shoddy excuse for a no show.

And to set her hormones off again is unforgivable.

I was buying CDs almost exclusively by this time so I've only got the second of the two 12" singles. When I bought the first CD (there was a gap between the two releases) if stated that the second CD would fit in the case. Predictably it did not. And as for the music, Behind The Counter is competent enough but it's a bit Fall by numbers and I felt at the time it had all got a bit samey. I was really hoping that War would be the Edwin Starr song but it was Henry Cow and not bad at that. Cab Driver's decent as well, M5 is very good, and for Happy Holiday see Behind The Counter. This really needed a shake up.

The second 12", ie the one you've got, has Behind The Counter (Remix) on the b-side. Is it much different to the regular BTC on the first CD?

Let me try routemaster, when I speak to him he responds.

Are there any differences between those mixes, Greasy Roads? Great review as always. :)

Thank you Amber. The two versions of Behind The Counter are identical for all intents and purposes. :(

The next single in 1994 saw the group treading water again: all three tracks were on the album, the sleeve was by Pascal Le Gras again, and the music, while perfectly acceptable, really didn't add too much to the canon. 15 Ways appeared to be MES's homage to Paul Simon whilst Hey!Student inspired one of the more amusing characters on the FoF. $500 Dollar Bottle Of Wine can only be damned with faint praise: it's ok, which is not good enough for The Fall. Again this was released in 12" format, 10" format (this version) and a CD version, all of which were identical so just designed to extract money from the faithful. Must try harder.

Looks nice on the turntable doesn't it though - that clear vinyl.

I'm surprised Dannynomates :wanker: hasn't got on the case here.

Dad :wanker: told me that one version of Behind the Counter had the trans guy/girl who was in the Comic Strip and some of the Fall videos adding the "wait sir, wait sir, you better wait sir" bits, and that 15 Ways was 15 seconds longer (or something) on the album.

This is complete nonsense. The word "again" is not grammatically correct as nothing before '15 Ways' had been issued in all of those formats. Furthermore they cannot have been identical as, like you said yourself, one was a 12" vinyl, another was a 10" vinyl (in clear plastic this time), and the other was a CD which plainly isn't vinyl at all.

Warning to Greasy Roads for hopeless inaccuracy.

Your father was talking rubbish, 15 Ways is actually three seconds shorter on the album. I have researched this.

You're both wrong, the LP version is 23 seconds longer.

Yeah I checked that too.

I was going to say, if Danny wants to correct things on discogs, it could certainly keep him busy. :wanker:

It's 1996, Brix is back in the group and they release this, which is, er, OK. It was about this time The Fall were throwing live albums and compilations at us like they were going out of fashion and frankly I was thinking that the whole thing was working towards some sort of conclusion. This was the first year I didn't buy everything they put out, drawing the line after a couple of inferior compilations. This track, or at least a version of it, appeared later on The Light User Syndrome. This is a mile away from the truly great singles the group turned out in the early days. I nearly said crafted but they used to sound like they just arrived somehow, fully formed. Their singles were now a habit rather than a necessity.

That's another great review Greasy Roads, I liked The Chiselers and it was good to see Brix back, but how sad to lose Craig. :(

Why is it sad? Craig had clearly had enough and MES recognised this so sacked him, thus presumably pleasing both parties. Sadness doesn't come into it unless you're five months with child.
