I was introduced to k.d. lang by Danny Baker playing 'Constant Craving' on his 'Morning Edition' show on the original Radio 5.
Off the strength of that I bought the album 'Ingenue' which is a classic.
How surprised I was to discover she'd released 4 previous albums, all of which were pure Country - and I bloody loved them!
On Weds. she performed 'Ingenue' in it's entirety. It was far less 'lush' than the recorded version and the better for it.
She also did a medley of songs by her fellow Canadians; Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen, plus some more of her own material. Unfortunately, however, nothing from those first 4 albums.
A couple of her songs could be loosely described as 'Western Swing', but leaning more towards the 'Swing'.
Don't get me wrong though, I still thoroughly enjoyed the show and I still believe (as I did when first hearing 'Constant Craving') that she has the voice of an angel .
I'll get my Country fix when I see Lucinda Williams on July 28th!
