Memory Gongs - Cocteau Twins with Budd

Don't forget that Pete played a long-neck 5 string banjo...I don't know if the extra two or three frets would make a difference or not or even if Pete's book uses that style of banjo as the basis of his instruction. If you look at pictures of Pete and Earl Scruggs, you'll see Pete's banjo has a longer neck.

Kicking the gong around - Cab Calloway

Figures Pete would be weird! I'll check first.

I'm Blue (The Gong Gong song) - Ikettes

It seems to me that most country players use a banjo with 4 frets above the 5th string tuning peg. Many folkies use a banjo with 6 frets above the 5th string tuning peg, like Pete.
Pete got convicted on 10 counts of Contempt of Congress because he wouldn't back down to the HUACkers...Pete won on appeal.

Bang a Gong - T Rex
Hmm, Folk vs Bluegrass, maybe that encapsulates the thing. I'd stick with a proper five.

If it's tuned the same, the folk banjo strings would be a little slack, easy on the fingers but lacking an essential tension.

One version of hell would be Joan Baez playing with Pete for eternity.

Amazing that he backed the HUAC down. Have to admire a guy who gets it done. I'm going to look that up, being public hearings there's bound to material on the Net, it should be very interesting.

Been So Long - The Pastels

I would think the shorter the neck, the more tension you could put on the strings. Seeger's banjo always seem low pitched to me - I think he mainly played it like a guitar ( he did play a 12 string guitar also) and it was neither old timey frailing nor blue grass Scruggs style.

She Belongs To Me - Ned Dylan

See you later, I'm off to Little Russia, maybe get an authentic bagel.

The label on my boots says they're designed and manufactured for the harsh Canadian winter so I'm in good shape - it's snowing heavily now.

Good for you FC - have a good time :)

Maybe you have Inuit Mukluks - if you do, you'll be fine even though they are mainly designed for the cold and not slushy snow and water.
