To forever live and die - OMD

Snowing! Sounds like it's raining too. It'll be an interesting day outside. I'm planning to go to Bathurst and Steeles and take walk down Little Russia.

My old man - Ian Dury

27 here, call for freezing rain. Looks as though the precipitation ran all night. One gets rain, the others get snow, same cloud.

I've got new snow boots to test out. It'll be a good day for it.

Old and in the Way - Charlie Poole

Hope your new snow boots give you good service. Grease them up so they shed the dampness. On ice, I found that I really needed studs on the soles and heel. Fortunately, there are several kinds available now.

It is the same giant weather system again: the Gulf up into the Maritimes.

The wrong way down - Go Betweens

Charlie did that one? I must listen to more of him. I have a comp and nearly jumped out of my shoes when I heard Hesitation Blues.

I should check tbese boots, not sure if they're leather. I have the scraping of a tin of mink oil, need to think about getting more.

You were on some slippery but if you needed studs. I can usually avoid ice patches, go around them etc. Though a few times I've had to cling onto tree branches or even tall weeds to stay upright.

Don't Let Your Deal Go Down - Charlie Poole

I'm not saying he's the best but Charlie is my favorite Old Timey musician. He was very well remembered at Fancy Gap and the surrounding countryside. He also did Sweet Sunny South - White House Blues - Take a Drink On Me - Shootin Creek - etc. Most of his material is still available (haven't checked youtube)

I've seen Mike Seeger a couple of times. Among his other skills, he's the best jews harp player I've heard.

Lanky - Syd Barrett

I saw Mike once myself, it's in my pantheon of shows. He played various instruments including a primitive gourd banjo.

Memory fades and I don't remember the music, it was before I had a digital recorder. I do remember that he looked very artistic / theatrical and wore a fancy scarf around his neck though he was indoors. :)

Hmm, Pete

Thank you - Led Zeppelin

Pete bugs me somehow but We Shall Overcome us something and he did try to see that the original composer got royalties for Lion Sleeps Tonight

The Thanks I Get - Wilco

Pete really could not sing very well but his heart was mostly in the right place. He spent a lot of money and time on his sloop Clearwater sailing the Hudson River to call attention to the pollution and he was effective. Before the HUAC he not only did not name names, he invited the ire of the reactionary committee and gave them a lecture on the constitution.

Thanks for the memories - Robert Hope

That's good to know, especially about anti pollution work being effective. It's hard to get action on such things against vested interests I think.

His banjo book is supposed to be good. A friend's learning, maybe I should get it for him.
